Short-Stretch Compression Bandages & Compression Wraps

Short-stretch compression bandages provide compression combined with high resistance to stretching. Short-stretch fabrics are designed to extend no more than approximately 60% of their original length when stretched. In contrast, long-stretch fabrics usually incorporate more traditionally elastic fabrics or components, which allow them to be extended to about 140% of their original length.

Short-stretch compression bandages provide the kind of permanent, working pressure needed to encourage lymphatic drainage, even when you are at rest. In contrast, long-stretch bandages, such as drugstore "Ace" bandages, are inappropriate for this use. By stretching too much, they're simply inadequate to the task of supplying constant resistance to the underlying tissues when the muscles are at rest.

Like any properly applied compression aid, short-stretch compression bandages can be used to improve venous flow and encourage proper lymphatic fluid drainage. Comprilan, from BSN Medical, for example, consists of 100% cotton fiber, with no elastic yarns. Another example is Rosidal K, from Lohmann & Rauscher. We also offer Durelast, from Lohmann & Rauscher, Handband, from KT Medical, LoPress from Hartmann, BiaForm from Biacare.

Made of 100% breathable cotton, this short-stretch compression bandage clings and conforms to provide strong compression in the extremities. Machine washable and reusable, these bandages are an economical solution to the problems of lymphedema, swelling, venous edema and post-traumatic swelling. Available in a variety of widths and lengths, you're sure to find the size that works best for your needs. Purchase bandages individually, or save money by buying in bulk.

Short-stretch compression bandages are used for compression therapy; a component of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Also called Complex Decongestive Therapy, CDT is a multi-pronged approach to the control of lymphedema. It involves manual drainage, skin care, exercise, and compression therapy to relieve the effects of compromised lymphatic drainage.
